After Applying

  • What if my contact info changes?
    All changes in your contact information must be submitted to AMCAS in order for the change to be official. You may also notify our office via email.
  • Can I check the status of my application online?
    No, but you can check to see if all materials have been received in our office by going to the Central Admissions Portal.
  • How do I know if I have been invited to interview?
    Interviews are by invitation only. Should a decision be made to invite you for an interview, you will be notified by e-mail.
  • How will I know if I have been accepted?
    You will receive an acceptance packet via postal mail with all pertinent information.
  • Does Loma Linda University know where else I am applying to medical school?
    Medical schools are not informed by AMCAS as to which other medical schools the applicant has designated on their primary application.
  • Will I be required to undergo a criminal background check?
    Accepted applicants are required to undergo a criminal background check. Loma Linda does not participate in the AAMC Background Check Service. Upon acceptance, the applicant will be notified of the process by which the background check is obtained.

Application

  • Can I get an application for admission from Loma Linda University directly?
    No, all applications for admission must be submitted through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). You will need to go to its website (www.aamc.org) to complete the application and indicate Loma Linda University as your choice.
  • Do all applicants receive supplementary applications?
    Yes, Loma Linda University sends supplementary applications to all applicants. The invitation to submit the supplementary application is sent via email. Therefore, you should add llu.edu to your email service’s “safe list.” If you have not received an invitation email within two weeks of notification from AMCAS that your application has been verified, please check your email spam folder. If it is not there, please call the Office of Admissions at 909.558.4467 to check the status.
  • How much is the supplementary application fee?
    There is a fee of $85 to have your application processed by Loma Linda University. You pay the fee online after completing the supplementary application or mail it in. Additional instructions are available at the end of the supplementary application process online.
  • How do I submit letters of recommendation?
    Loma Linda University participates in the AMCAS Letters Service. Please visit Letters of Recommendation for more information. Loma Linda will not accept any letters sent directly to the school.
  • When should I send transcripts to Loma Linda University?
    We only require official, final copies of your transcripts after you have been offered an acceptance. Please do not send transcripts to the Office of Admissions unless requested to do so.

Educational Requirements

  • Does Loma Linda accept AP credit?
    AP credits for prerequisite science courses are not generally accepted. However, if the applicant’s undergraduate institution has accepted the AP credits, upper division science courses in the same area may be substituted for the required credit hours.
  • Is a baccalaureate degree required?
    A baccalaureate degree is generally required. However, exceptional applicants may be considered for admission who have completed 90 semester/135 quarter hours.
  • What if I haven’t completed all the required coursework when it comes time to apply?
    You are still eligible to apply, as long as you plan to take the remaining classwork in the upcoming academic year, with completion prior to June of the year of matriculation. However, you should be aware that the MCAT is based on the knowledge gained from the prerequisite science courses.

Finances

  • If I am not a resident of California, is my tuition different?
    No, Loma Linda University is a privately owned institution. As such, state residency is not a determinant in tuition rates.
  • What are the typical expenses to attend Loma Linda for one year?
    Tuition and required fees for the 2016-2017 school year will be $54,818.  A living allowance is estimated to be $16,350. Books and supplies are estimated to be $2,517.

Recommendation Letters

  • I'm filling out my secondary application and my recommendation letters aren't showing up as having been received.
    Letters of recommendation are downloaded from the AMCAS website after the supplementary application is received by Loma Linda University Office of Admissions. For additional information visit Letters of Recommendation.

Seventh-day Adventist Affiliation

  • Does the School of Medicine give preference to Seventh-day Adventist applicants?
    The School of Medicine is owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church; therefore, preference for admission is given to members of the Church. However, it is a firm policy of the Admissions Committee to admit each year a number of non-church related applicants who have demonstrated a commitment to Christian principles and are best suited for meeting the educational goals of the School. No candidate is accepted on the basis of religious affiliation alone.

  • What are the average GPA and MCAT scores for your accepted students?
    For the 2015 entering class, the average BCPM GPA was 3.73, the cumulative GPA was 3.77 and average MCAT was 31, with an average of 10 on each subsection.
  • How many primary AMCAS applications do you receive?
    We received 6,511 applications for the entering class of 2015.

Testing Requirements

  • What tests are required in order to apply?
    The Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) is required; the Graduate Records Exam (GRE) is not required. More information about the MCAT can be found here.
  • I took the MCAT more than three years ago. Can I still use these scores?
    No, Loma Linda University only accepts MCAT scores taken within three (3) years of the expected date of matriculation. For the 2017 application cycle, the earliest MCAT accepted is one taken anytime in 2014.

Types of MD Applications

  • Early Decision Program (EDP):
    Loma Linda does not have any additional qualifications other than those stated by AMCAS (please view the EDP information on the AMCAS site).
  • Regular:
