A National Institute on Aging Butler-Williams Scholar and interests have centered on the impact of aging on the cardiovascular and nervous systems since the beginning of his career in the biomedical sciences.

Phoebe Chum, MS

Research Associate

Phoebe joined the lab in 2017 as a research staff and received her Master in Neuroscience in 2021 from Loma Linda University. Her project focuses on creating a diagnostic molecular profile via miRNA regulation on the early stage of Alzheimer’s Disease (mild cognitive impairment). Outside of the lab, she enjoys being a plant mom and building puzzles.

Research Associate

Mary joined the Behringer Lab in fall 2022 as a Research Associate and hopes to pursue a PhD in Neuroscience. Mary received her Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience with minors in Biomedical Research and Arabic Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2022. Her current research project focuses on the effects of Cannabidiol on the development and progression of Alzhimer’s Disease. In her spare time, she loves to travel, exercise, and go to the beach.

Fritz Miot

Fritz Miot

PhD Student

Fritz is a PhD student in the Integrated Biomedical Graduate Studies program.  He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Biophysics at Andrews University. He joined the lab in the spring of 2022 and is currently developing his project about the role of cholesterol and senescence on cerebrovascular remodeling in aging and Alzheimer’s disease. In his spare time, Fritz is interested in a wide variety of hobbies including learning more about physics, computer programming, and watching anime.

Zion Shih

Zion Shih

MD/PhD Student

Zion Shih is an MD/PhD student who graduated from Westmont College triple majoring in engineering physics, chemistry, and biology. She's excited to understand deeply the pathophysiology of disease and how to create whole person wellness. From needs shared through invitations to new communities and perspectives from diverse backgrounds, she is eager to develop and implement interventions to restore health for patients through a multidisciplinary lens. In addition to exploring more about the world each day, Zion enjoys being with family and friends, sharing meals, music, and adventures.

Ankita received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the University of California, Riverside (UCR). She joined the Behringer Lab in November 2022 as a research intern. She plans on pursuing medicine after graduation. She enjoys traveling (has been to over 24 countries), working out, and attending live concerts.

Sarah received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the University of California, Riverside (UCR). She joined the Behringer Lab in January 2023 as a research intern and plans to pursue a MD after graduation. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and exploring new coffee shops.
