Mark Reeves, MD, PhD, FACS, professor of surgery, and W.S. Esther Wu (Yung), MD, FACS, assistant professor of surgery, at Loma Linda University (LLU) School of Medicine are among a group of surgical educators who were inducted into the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Academy of Master Surgeon Educators® on September 27 during a program event in Chicago. This is the seventh cohort of members inducted into this distinguished academy.
This induction demonstrates the highest achievements in the realm of surgical education, evaluated by rigorous peer review. Reeves and Yung will participate in academy programs and activities designed to support and enhance surgical education.
Reeves is a surgical oncologist and serves in a variety of leadership roles including vice president of Institutes and medical director of LLU Cancer Center.
Yung is a general surgeon that serves in academic positions across LLU School of Medicine including director of research in the Division of General Surgery and serves as vice chair of diversity in the Department of Surgery.
The mission of the ACS Academy of Master Surgeon Educators® program is to play a leadership role in advancing the science and practice of education across all surgical specialties promoting the highest achievements in the lifetimes of surgeons.
The first inaugural class was inducted in 2018, and the Academy has since grown to include 401 members, associate members, and affiliate members who represent thirteen surgical specialties other than general surgery.
Reeves and Yung are two of 38 surgeon educators nationally inducted this year as associate members in the academy’s seventh cohort.
