Jaime López, EdD, has been selected associate dean for student affairs at Loma Linda University School of Medicine effective, July 30, 2024.
Dr. López is a motivated and experienced leader in higher education, and will oversee all aspects of student affairs, including student support services, campus life, and student development programs.
“We welcome Dr. López to this role as he is an advocate for student success. We are excited about the contributions he will bring to advance our programs, services and student life," said Dr. Tamara Thomas, dean of Loma Linda University School of Medicine.
Dr. López comes to Loma Linda University School of Medicine from Puerto Rico after serving as the associate dean of student affairs at the School of Medicine, Universidad Central del Caribe in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. He also served as vice president for planning and development, and vice president for student affairs at Antillean Adventist University in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

Our goal is to create an environment where every student can thrive, both academically and personally, while nurturing their spiritual well-being,” said Dr. López.
Dr. López graduated from Antillean Adventist University where he completed a bachelor’s degree in theology. He received his master’s degree in higher education from Dallas Baptist University with an emphasis in university administration, focusing on student and international affairs. He completed his doctorate in educational management and leadership at Inter-American University, San Germán Campus, with a dissertation focusing on the relationship between student services and student retention.
Dr. López is replacing Yami Bazan, PhD, who served as the School of Medicine’s associate dean for student affairs since 2021.
The position was approved by Loma Linda University Health Board of Trustees in August 2024.
