Dr. Kevin Codorniz

Loma Linda University School of Medicine has appointed Kevin Codorniz, MD, FACE, as vice dean for Academic Affairs.

Dr. Codorniz joined the School of Medicine in 2011 as an assistant professor of medicine and most recently served as associate dean for clinical education. He also serves as chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism and medical director of Loma Linda University Health Diabetes Treatment Center.

“Dr. Codorniz has been an invaluable leader in clinical education and has demonstrated a strong commitment to our students, faculty and our mission,” said Tamara Thomas, MD, dean of Loma Linda University School of Medicine. “His experience, leadership and dedication to medical education make him well prepared to serve in this important role.”

In his role as associate dean for clinical education, Dr. Codorniz has led the clinical training portion of the medical curriculum and played a key role in developing clinical training opportunities at the School of Medicine's regional campuses, including AdventHealth Orlando in Florida and Kettering Health in Dayton, Ohio.

He is a member of the Endocrine Society and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. He has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and research and has presented lectures and participated in poster sessions focused on endocrinology, diabetes and medical education.

He is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology.   

A Loma Linda University School of Medicine alumnus, Dr. Codorniz earned his medical degree in 2005. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Pacific Union College and completed his residency in internal medicine at Loma Linda University. He also completed a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism at the University of California, Irvine.

He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Society and recognized as Loma Linda University School of Medicine’s Clinical Teacher of the Year, Internal Medicine Faculty of the Year, and Family Medicine Consulting Faculty of the Year.

Dr. Codorniz succeeds Paul Herrmann, MD, PhD, who served as vice dean for Academic Affairs since 2022. Dr. Herrmann has been appointed chancellor of Loma Linda University.

The appointment was approved by the Loma Linda University Health Board of Trustees.
