Loma Linda University is a Seventh-day Adventist university, offering a unique learning environment through the integration of health, science and faith.  A world-class academic medical center, Loma Linda University has eight professional schools, six hospitals, remote clinics in the western United States, and affiliate organizations.

  • Three weeks over the summer at Loma Linda University
  • Classes, workshops, and tours on weekdays 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Social events, office hours/homework, and exploring Southern California on the weekends

Courses

Students take one math course, one reading course, one writing course, and an anatomy and physiology course.  Students work together on a group project and present at the end of the program. Read more about the curriculum. 

Schedule

Students can plan to spend roughly seven hours per weekday (8a-5p with a break for lunch) in classes and other planned sports and wellness activities.  Weekends include vespers, tours to nearby attractions and sports and fellowship.

When is MITHS?

It is scheduled for three weeks in the summer at Loma Linda University. The 2025 dates are June 22-July 10, 2025.

Where do students stay during MITHS?

Loma Linda University offers residential housing for students in Lindsay Hall and Daniells Residence Complex.
 

How much does it cost?

MITHS is free for students! If you are selected, your room, board, and educational expenses will be covered by Loma Linda University. Students will be responsible for the cost of transportation to and from Loma Linda, laundry and spending money for extracurricular activities. Proof of medical insurance coverage from an individual or group plan is also required.

Who can apply?

MITHS participants will be selected from a pool of Black applicants who meet the following criteria:

  • Junior in high school
  • Overall GPA of 3.5+
  • High academic performance in science and math courses
  • Seventh-day Adventist Church membership or affiliation
  • Citizenship record in good and regular standing
  • Participation in leadership, school activities, and community service
  • Strong interest in a career in the health sciences
  • Public, private, and homeschooled students are eligible.
