Loma Linda University School of Medicine recognized the class of 2025 during the white coat ceremony on Thursday, July 29, 2021.
On this special occasion, 176 students gathered before their families, friends and faculty inside Loma Linda University Church to receive the white coats that symbolize the beginning of their journey as future physicians.
The ceremony opened with prayer, followed by an address by Dr. Shammah Williams ('11), assistant professor of medicine at the School of Medicine. He shared a few reflections with the students to help them better understand the calling that is being placed on their lives. He shared advice, stories and inspiration to help the first-year medical students with their journey.
“Today is about you. But from tomorrow on, it is all about your patients,” said Dr. Williams.
Ten faculty members placed coats on the students and congratulated them on their entry into medicine with the promise to the treat their patients with the highest respect and compassion.
To close the ceremony, Dr. Tamara Thomas (’87), dean of Loma Linda University School of Medicine, joined the students to recite the physician’s oath in front of faculty, friends and family.
